Foundations of Faith: A New Year and a New Bible Study program starting in January!
A Journey Through The Catechism of the Catholic Church - Foundations of Faith is a brand-new program for Ascension that brings the Catechism to life. Filmed on location in 11 countries, engaging presenters (Dr. Edward Sri, Dr Marcellino D'Ambrosio, Jeff Cavins, and Fr. Mike Schmitz) guide you through the fascinating sites that helped make the Catechism what is today. Whether you are new to the Faith or looking to deepen your understanding, this journey will inspire you and transform every aspect of your life.
If you would like to read more about the program, please visit Ascensionpress.org under the Bible Studies tab.
The Foundations of Faith Bible study consists of 20 sessions, which will be segmented with breaks taking us into the summer. The first break will be early March and the course will resume a few weeks after Easter. Each session includes a 30-minute video, facilitation by Sacred Heart Catechists, and small group discussion.
The cost is $40 for a hard copy workbook and guide. There is also a $6.95 online version, which includes an online workbook and video access for one year. If you purchase the online option, you will still be able to participate in the in-person sessions.
We are no longer taking online registration so if you have questions or to register, please contact the Faith Formation Office at 703-590-0256 or ff@shcva.org, or see the Faith Formation Staff in person. Registration will be completed upon payment. If you are a current volunteer in Faith Formation (including SPRED and OCIA), or if you commit to volunteering in the 2026-2027 Faith Formation cycle there is no charge for the class. Please make this clear upon registration.
NOTE: This Bible study is encouraged for adults who want to be baptized or join the Church in Full Communion at the Easter Vigil in 2027. The Fall 2026/Spring 2027 OCIA sessions will begin a two-year preparation for these individuals, which will include participation in this Bible study or like studies.
